Marsha:
It's true that this isn't a hoax. The basic problem, as Steve Jacobson has
ably pointed out, is that the issue has nothing to do with blindness except
insofar as blind persons are part of the larger society. If we use that
criterion to determine what are appropriate or inappropriate posts for this
list, that is, what posts are on- or off-topic, then nothing and no subject
is out of bound. Clearly, this conclusion would be nonsense and its
application would result in chaos -- something which has, unfortunately,
overtaken many lists, Usenet newsgroups and chat rooms. Better venues for
posts on this subject would be general computer lists (not
blindness-specific ones) and forums on Internet piracy, copyright laws, etc.
etc. etc.
Gary Wunder also has a point in that a great deal of malicious mischief
results from clicking on unknown web sites. Although I can't speak for David
Andrews, at one time, he, Steve Jacobson and I shared list administrative
duties and we tried -- and stil try -- to ensure that participation on these
lists is a safe and enjoyable endeavor.

HI
I wonder if the original poster was talking about the "Stop online Piracy
Act"? If this be the case, it obviously is a real problem. Wikipedia, and
at least another site which I can't remember, are threatening to close down
their sites on January 18 to protest the legislation. This is a very scary
thing. Unfortunately I don't have the bill number at hand but if you look
it up you will find it isn't a hoax.
