[Blindtlk] why is it important to joinanorganization ofthe blind?

I concur. I expect that rehab will fund some people and not others,
ostensibly at least based upon the merits of their cases. It's a long way
off, though.

Actually, I think the chief difficulty is figuring out how to get a
sufficient amount of information to the blind driver quickly enough both to
react and to make decisions. I think some of the experiences of the pilots
and designers may be constructive here.

I favor the research but, frankly, am somewhat skeptical that we can come up
with satisfactory information inputs short of making the driver and car a
cyborg (something I'd think was cool). We shall see.

Mike

One other unanswerable question at this point: If being able to drive opens
new employment possibilities, will rehab funds be used to subsidize the
purchase and production of cars the blind can drive? How many of us
expressed doubt about whether the first Braille notetakers would be funded
given their voice competitors cost $900 and they cost $4,000. Braille,
however, provided sufficient benefits to justify the extra cost. Again, we
just don't know.

Unanswerable question as we are not clairvoyant.
