Probably because it doesn't work or give anything close to the
accurate weight. * Smile!

"The real problem of blindness is not the loss of eyesight. The
real problem is the misunderstanding and lack of education that
exists. If a blind person has the proper training and
opportunity, blindness can be reduced to a mere physical
nuisance."

Why is it that so many of my blind friends buy a talking bathroom
scale and,
every time it talks, they tell it to shut up?

Household blindness specific things that I use include:
talking alarm clock
talking bathroom scale
talking caller ID, I have the Panasonic phone sold by ILA
braille measuring cups
and lots of labels or tactile indicators on regular appliances

I'd really like to own:
a talking microwave oven
a washer/dryer without 101,000 options accessed only through
menus
and
a DVD player that is easily usable without a degree in rocket
science

Of course I have and use other blindness gadgets, but I tried to
think
of things that are more oriented to household use rather than
personal use.

HTH and congratulations!
Julie

 Hello List,
Jessica from Virginia here... I post every once in a while. I
think I
have
mentioned that I am getting married March 24th. I am going
threw and
doing
the registering for wedding stuff thing. My future husband
already has a
good bit of stuff because he already lives on his own in a
house. I am
writing to ask for any suggestions on things a blind woman may
find useful
in either maintaining a home or cooking or I don't know? Of
course we are
registering for the usual, I just didn't know if there were any
cool
cooking
or something type thing that people find extra useful. Is there
anything
that ya'll feel like you couldn't live with out. Things I have
thought of
are: talking caller ID, maybe a talking thermostat. Anything I
may be
missing? Also, in the products I just named, do any of you have
specific
suggestions on which ones to get and where they may be sold?

Thanks, any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!
 Jessica

 Subject: [Blindtlk] U-verse DVR help

 Hi list:

Just got U-verse installed on Saturday and looking for some
helpful tips
on
using the DVR for recording and playback. The web guide doesn't
seem all
that accessible or maybe I'm not understanding how to read it
using jaws
12
and IE8. Any ideas on recording using either the website or
remote?
 Thanks!

 Reese
