[Blindtlk] Picture ID's.

In Maryland we now have to sign an electronic screen so that the signature can be obtained for state IDs provided to drivers and non-drivers by the Department of Motor Vehicles. You can't touch the screen with your finger or place a signature guide to align your signature, as this accidently presses a button on the screen. It is tricky to sign freehand without touching the screen. Since I initially had trouble with this, I received an id that in the signature part said "unable to sign" or something to that effect. I wasn't even told that such a statement would be placed on my ID. Luckily I was with a sighted person when I received my ID and this person drew my attention to this notation on my ID. Since I am fully capable of signing my name, I demanded to have a chance to try my signature again. After several tries, we got it to work and I now have my signature on my ID again.
After I described this incedent at our chapter meeting, a number of our members discovered that they also have the unable to sign statement on their ID.

Gee! You must not have received a parcel via UPS lately! The drivers always have one of those electronic signature tablets. I just put a signature guide on it and sign away!

In Maryland, our ID is given to us, before leaving the MVA office.I think drivers get sent a reminder in the mail. I have never recieved such mail. However, it is very interesting reading these e-mails on this list. I have not seen that electronic device Lloyde, mentioned earlier. Barbara >
