[Blindtlk] Question About Repairing Canes

I do like the telescoping canes for their compact style. They are easy to
get out of the way in a car, or at church. But I find that, when you use
them extensively for long periods of time, no matter how hard you tug and
twist them, they tend to fold up on you. Very frustrating when you are
trying to get somewhere in a hurry.

I too use a telescoping cane from NFB and have for several years.  I like
it, better than any cane I have previously used.

I like the NFB telescoping canes and have used them for over 25 years.
I have used other canes, but I found the telescoping canes to be the best
for my needs.
They are the lightest of all the canes and collapse into the shortest and
most compact package when not in use.
I have even attached a "D"ring carabineer clip , up close to the end of the
handle and it lets me quickly clip them on my belt loop, or in your case a
purse strap, which frees up my hands and ensures that I never walk off and
forget my cane or where I left it.  I can even snap open my cane with just
one hand and collaspe it with just one hand too.
When I open the cane, I give it a good tug to ensure that it does not
collapse on me and I cup my hand over the end cap as I pound it down to
collapse it closed.
They come in fiber glass, which is more flexible and tough, or the carbon
fiber, which is more stiffer but lighter.

The price is about the same and I usually replace them, broken or not once
every 4-5 years.
I use them as props in White Cane demonstrations and use the parts to repair
or rebuild canes for myself and others.
