The compass, position indicator etc. can be used without the
Internet.
However, I suspect that one needs the Internet to translate GPS
readings
into actual street locations. The software can be downloaded
without wifi so
doubt it has self-contained maps.

Hi,
I have a question about the Ariadne
GPS. Does it have to have Internet, or can it be used without
it?

Sincerely,
Jasmine

I also like Ariadne GPS. Navigon can be expensive but also does
a
creditable job. Ariadne GPS doesn't give you routes but tells
you where you
are, compass heading and nearness to points of interest you enter
in as you
get to them.

I am not terribly interested in street-by-street directions as
there are too
many variables that change too often given the paucity of map
updates
normally experienced these days.

Mike

Do you have an iPhone? If you do. There is a good app called
Telenav, and
the Sendero Group and the Seeing Eye are working on one to soon
come on the
market.

I need to buy an accessible GPS for myself. In my research,
I've pretty
much narrowed it down to the following two units: The new Kapten
Mobile GPS
and the Sendero Adventure GPS.

I'd like input from anyone; any recommendations or warnings on
either of
these, or suggestions for anything that might be better than
either of them.
