[Blindtlk] Using Itunes with JAWS

Arielle:

On the contrary, iTunes is quite accessible. But it's accessible in much the
same way as Blio's PC implementation is: that is, fields don't always show
up when you hit the JAWS Say-line combination and you hear what's coming up
by hitting the tab key and using keyboard shortcuts.

It's a good idea to do quite a bit of exploring; the tab key moves you
between fields and F6 moves you to larger divisions within the program. It's
a good idea to go through and set your preferences (Control-comma does this,
if I recall) and going through the various menus (File, View, etc.) will
both give you some ability to execute commands and choices and to set up the
appearance the way you want -- like setting list views as opposed to grid
views.

I highly recommend to go to the freedom Scientific website and listen to
several of Jonathan Mosen's FSCasts on iTunes; you'll find that things are
quite a bit clearer after doing this.

For instance, when pointing to a song, you can hit the Applications Key and
one of the choices is to "Add to Playlist".

Itunes has many possible choices and configurations; you can use the usual
tree structure for devices or you can choose a menu structure where buttons
(executed with the spacebar) will open certain options or choices. There's
far more to go through than I can in this single message. First-letter
navigation works in most list views but you'll have to figure out by trial
and error where it works and where it doesn't and when it's easier to look
for a button and when it's easier to use the File Menu to take certain
actions.

I use iTunes almost exclusively for listening to favorite radio stations
these days and I have playlists such as "All News Radio Stations" and a
bunch of my music.

It's definitely a different experience but, especially with your 64-bit
system, itunes is farily responsive once you get used to it.

Please check out those FSCasts. If you can't find them, I might be prevailed
upon to download them, zip them up and put them in my public Dropbox folder
for you to grab.

I wouldn't bother with BlindTunes as you never know when iTunes is going to
be updated.

Subject: [Blindtlk] Using Itunes with JAWS

Hi all,

I'm a little late to the party on this, but trying to figure out how
to use ITunes on my PC. I am running Windows 7 and JAWS 14. I have
been playing around with ITunes and on its own it is not very
accessible. I can navigate to and play songs, but navigation is slow
(just one song at a time, I can't use first-letter navigation) and
when I try to copy songs to a playlist, I can't reliably select the
right songs and sometimes I can't even see all the songs in my
library. A friend suggested scripts from
www.blindtunes.net
I tried downloading the scripts but during the setup process, when I
specify that I want them installed into JAWS 14, I get the following
error message:
Runtime error (at 10:646): out of range.
It gives me no choice but to press OK and abort setup. Does anyone
know why I am getting this error and how I can successfully install
the BlindTunes scripts? Is it because I still have JAWS 11 installed?
If I can't use the BlindTunes scripts, do you have any tips for
playlist creation in ITunes? Thanks!

Arielle
