[Blindtlk] Measuring

I know you will get lots of ideas here but this is what I did with my
youngsters, all four of them. I have never relied on vision for this task.
There are two ways, in my opinion. You will be using a medicine syringe for
both ways. They are easily acquired at any pharmacy. Depending on the
dosage, you might simply get a syringe that matches that dosage so that you
can simply put it in the bottle and then pull up until the syringe is
completely full, when the stick comes up to the top, just before the rubber
stopper would come out if you continued to pull. The other way is to cut a
little indentation into the edge of the triangular, (if memory serves me
right) stick. Then you pull it up until the stick it at the top of the
vessel. You might ask your sister to watch you do it so it is clear that you
are getting the correct amount. Hopefully, this makes sense and I am
positive that others will have some comments. If you haven't posted this
question on the Blindparents list serve, by all means, put it there as well.
Best of luck. Actually the hardest part of giving meds to little ones is
getting them to swallow the stuff. That is really where you'll need some
good luck! LOL

Subject: [Blindtlk] Measuring

Hi all, I am not sure what would be the best list to ask this question on
but Im posting it on a couple of lists.
I am trying to figure out a way to measure out my baby niece's liquid
medication. There is a syringe with markings on it which I can see just
fine. But the medication is almost transparent so it is very hard for me to
tell when it reaches the appropriate markings. When Im measuring out darker
liquid meds, I have no trouble seeing it. But with this clear one, I dont
know what to do, other than have a sighted person do it every time (twice
every day). I am going to be taking care of her while my sister goes out of
town for 10 days, so I am hoping to find out a way to do this on my own.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Thanks
