One time I was waiting to get a hair cut. A man and his son walk in and sit
next to me. The son tells the Father that he would rather be deaf than
blind. I was not thinking creatively at the time or else I would have said,
"Well kid good thing I am not recruiting, I don't recruit on Saturdays!."

In the book adjustment to the Blind, and in other literature I have seen,
Blindness is the greatest fear in the human race next to cancer.  I have
even seen references to it's being feared more than death.  The commissioner
of the South Carolina commission  of the Blind said that about 40 plus years
ago, while he sat around in a dorm room with some of his friends, they
discussed which disability they would pick if they had to have one.  They
all said that Blindness was the one they would least desire.
