I haven't used BARD in a while so I didn't realize it was considered a
"non-essential service." Unless we all flood congress' phone and emails
with complains they won't do anything. They are too busy acting like
bullies on the playground to talk to "real" people. We aren't on their list
of lobbyists they're scared of. Being from Paul Ryan's WI district, people
who aren't rich are not on his radar. Ron Johnson is even worse. He has
this pipedream that all disabled people can just call a neighbor and get
rides. He doesn't believe we should or can be independent at all. These
guys are blinder than we are!
Mike, I agree with you on your critique of privatization. Milwaukee is
trying to privatize the bus system. NOT good. We already privatized some
social services in WI to make save money and make Walker happy. It's not
going well. Nobody regulates them and it's awful. Our motto is "Forward"
but we are going back ward.

Dear all,
As a practicing Buddhist, I do meditation daily and try to incorporate
mindfulness into my life. I do not have a center to attend. There is one in
Raleigh, but neither bus or paratransit will go there and I have tried and
failed to get someone to volunteer to drive me there each week. I really
think the best option for me to learn from a teacher is to attend a retreat.
There is one in Asheville that sounds nice. Has anyone gone on one of these
retreats? If so, I would like to know about accessibility. How receptive
were they to having a blind participant? If you have a guide dog, how did
they feel about you bringing him or her? How did you communicate with
teachers during the days of silence? The one I am considering says they
communicate through a message board on days of silence? Did the retreat
staff provide these messages in Braille?
Any stories of experience would be appreciated. I really think a meditation
retreat would help my mental health a lot.

Well this might also be a question for the travel and tourism division.
I can actually look into it as well.
I am not a Buddhist, but recently I have been doing Yoga and meditation and
eating better, and trying to relax a little bit, it is helping a lot.

Good evening everyone,
BARD may be down but Bookshare.org is still delivering. Perhaps it's
time to privatize NLS.

Much of Bookshare's funding has come from the US Department of Education.
Also Learning Ally.
BARD will be down until NLS has a budget and we are told we can come back to
work. I wouldn't venture a guess as to how few or many days this will turn
out to be.

It shouldn't, but this could vary from state to state. The state
rehab agencies pull down money from RSA on a regular gbasis, they
don't get their money in one or two big lumps. Sok, with shutdown
they are not able to get federal money, as long as they have acdcess
to other funds, to tide them over, there shouldn't be problems with service.
In a cash poor state this could be different though.

Hey, Mike,
And turn NLS to privatized scat, Useful only to those who are able
to hawk up some fee? I appreciate your dumb idea, because most every
idea is deserving of at least a voice yet, it is retarded!Just How is
privatizing national li-brary service, removing it from the common
jurisdiction a good idea?At 08:05 PM 10/1/2013, Mike Freeman wrote:
