I like your first point, Mike, especially since my soda consumption has
dropped considerably over the years, but grin indeed.

Hey! Look upon this as a blessing from God. (grin) He/She/it is telling you
not to drink sodas! (smirk)

But, seriously, touch-screen machines *do* have advantages aside from
ability to encompassmore varieties of sodas: touch-screen and
membrane-keyboard systems are easier to maintain than are systems with
mechanical buttons.

I'm not justifying or favoring this -- it just is.

Mike

I was just thinking about that today while at firehouse. They are not
accessible.

Weird question, but has anyone else used those new touchscreen soda
dispensers? Our local Burger king just got one and it is not accessible at
all! I can't see how a person in a wheelchair could even reach the screen.
I had no trouble with the old fashioned ones and they were low enough for
someone in a chair. Sighted staff didn't like it either but tried their
best to help. I have some sight and could tell where the circles to tap
where but couldn’t read them, especially those higher than me. The printed
prompts are in very small print and unreadable. I hate the fact my
independence is gone. More fast food places are going to this because the
machine takes up less space and offers more options for customers. Since it
can only help one customer at a time I don't think it's practical, but we
should have plans to fight if these machines are cost effective thus
sticking around.
