I believe he can get a converter that will hook the HDMI to some other
format.

The quality will be downgraded to the lessor format, but it beets getting a
home theater system.

The Apple does have a fiber optic output for the sound, but of course, most
old TV's don't have fiber optic inputs, but it is another way to get sound.
There is no analog or RCA plug outputs.
