[Blindtlk] Deleting commercials in an audio selection.

Can you play just the segment? There's a keystroke to do this -- W, perhaps -- but I have to relearn each time I do it. If so, I don't know.

Do you have more than one delete key? If so, try the other one. Or are you using a laptop that doesn't truly implement a delete key?

I'll do some snooping.

Mike

Yes, I'm familiar with the skip intervals, moving around the file that is
playing, start, end etc.

Most of the time what I have done is picked out a selection to save.

The delete key, however is not working to delete my selection. For
instance, I hit Shift-L and l, marking the beginning, say, of a commercial
to delete. I find the end of the commercial, mark it with the shift-R, then
r. However when hitting the delete key, nothing happens. What am I
missing?

Thanks.

Judy

You can delete a selection, either between points or everything *but* the
selection between two points. You can move around the recording in intervals
from one-tenth of a second to fifteen or thirty minutes -- I forget which.

Open the clip you wish to edit with TotalRecorder. Now tab through the
dialog you are presented with (JAWS may lose focus so you'll have to Alt-Tab
to get back). You'll see several combo boxes; one adjusts the skip interval
used when pressing spacebar on the "left", "right", "to start", "to end"
buttons you'll see in the dialog. Once you've found the start (leftmost)
point youw wish to delete, hit a capital L. That marks the "left" position.
Hitting a lowercase l moves you back to the point. Now find the end of the
segment to delete. The keystrokes to mark and move to that spot are capital
R and r respectively. Now just hit the delete key.

There are many mor complexities to this dialog and things you can do. Look
at the various menus and you'll find what I think is called the "Effects"
menu where you can adjust things like recording speed, normalized volume and
a plethora of other stuff, depending upon which ad-ons for TR you've
purchase.

Playing with the program is the best way to learn.

Greetings to all:

I am looking for an accessible audio program where I can delete a selected
clip, such as a commercial. I use TotalRecorder and love it, but, as far as
I can determine, there isn’t the ability to delete a selection. I would be
glad of anyone’s advice. I am using Windows 8 and Jaws 14.

Thanks.

Judy
