I would recommend a BrailleNote Apex from Humanware.  I have used
this since middle school and it has served me well.  I would also
recomend the Perkins brailler.  The Perkos brailler is great when
you need to make a quick note of an address or phone number.  The
BrailleNote Apex is a portable device.  Your student will be able
to take in a car or on an airplane.
