[Blindtlk] Echolocation: How it Works

I come somewhat late to this thread, but, I find I have something to say.
1. While I would agree that the clicking with the tongue is, to speak frankly, not socially acceptible, and it is best to avoid looking and sounding like a fool as you make your way here and there, I would ask us to all just stop taking things so personally and just think objectivly for a moment about what is really going on here. Whether one clicks with the tongue, or taps with the cane, essentially, the same thing is happening: all be it in different ways for each of us. The plain and simple fact is that we all use the same echo location method whether we want to admit it or not. Perhaps what has happened is that the tongue clickers have given echo location a bad name due to the habit that they have fallen in to of using their tongues to produce the sound: and, this, for some reason, has caused cane users to refer to the very same use of sound bouncing off things as something other than what it really is, (echo location). Cane users have, perhaps if only subconciously, looked down on tongue clickers for doing essentially the very same that cane users themselves do except that they tap a cane rather than click the tongue. How do I know? Well, I'll tell you. I did it myself: and both ways. The fact is this. No matter how the sound is produced, what the use of it is is to detect the sounds of echo bouncing off walls and objects in order to determin verious factors about it. IF I had no cane, perhaps I might choose to make the sound in another way. But, the bottom line appears to be that, one way or the other, we are all using, (in different ways) the same technique.
Sincerely,
the Constantly Barefooted Ray, Still a very happy Mac and iphone user!
