[Blindtlk] Golf Tournaments

Good morning Cheryl and everyone,

The USBGA has been around for quite some time. They're not very well
known in the blind community. Folks should also be aware that this
organization is heavily steeped in the higherarchy of sight. They have
several categories of players based on the amount of vision one has. As far
as I'm concerned this is ridiculous as golf can be challenging even for
sighted competitors let alone burdening budding blind golfers with the false
notion that their ability to play the game is based on the amount of site
they have an attitude the NFB is working hard to change. Unless we can
convince the USBGA to depart from this nonsense we may be better off to
conduct a golf tournament without their involvement. But of course if we
could get them on board with us it would be fantastic!

Peter Donahue

Good morning all:
I would also say that blind golfers do the golfing, maybe try the sports
division, as well as the USBGA - United States Blind Golf Association.
I am posting the link to one of our shows on the WTOE Network.
www.thruoureyes.org, which is run by donations by the Northeast Chapter of
the NFB of NJ. This is "On the Bright Side" hosted by Janie Degenshine from
the NFB of NJ who is also President Joe Ruffalo's sister and Jerry Moreno
from the NFB of NC formerly of NJ. Who host the 2nd Wednesday of every month
from 8-9pm eastern. This show was recorded from the May 8, 2013 show. In
this May episode, Janie and Jerry chat with blind golfer, Mario tobia. Learn
his tips and share his successes. In addition, video clips and a book corner
can't be missed.
Why can't we be the golfers, many can play golf, maybe do something with our
members or the USBGA

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
