Subject: Re: [Blindtlk] Echolocation: How it Works
I mentioned last week a sad story about echolocation that found my poor aunt
face up against a garage door. I have one more story, one which is probably
a bit easier to take.
When my grandson was about nine years old, we went out walking, and he
observed that I could go around cars without touching them with my cane. He
asked how I could do this, and I tried to explain the concept of
echolocation. He thought about it for a minute and then said "how do you
really do it?" In frustration I said that a little ghosts told me, and,
without one bit of reservation he said, "I knew you were cheating." I guess
the moral of the story is that it is easier to believe in a ghost on my
shoulder than that I can figure out how to get around large objects based on
reflected sound.
