[Blindtlk] Looking for work in Columbus, Ohio

Hi All:

Perhaps this post may be more appropriate for the Jobs listserve, but I am not subscribed to it. If so, maybe I'll subscribe to it.

Rather than bore anybody, I'll try to make this brief and to the point. I live in Dayton, Ohio and have been working for our local community college in our customer service call center for around a year and 10 months. While I enjoy my job, the college can only afford to have me work part time. Thanks to our transient computer specialist, we were able to get Shoretell and other software working with JAWS. However, the powers that be here are making changes to our center next week, at least for the summer. We will be making outbound calls instead of inbound calls, using a software called Radiant. Nobody knows how accessible it will be.

As I may have indicated on here before, I am also taking college courses at another local university toward a degree in Rehabilitation Services. Between work and school, I am extremely busy, but feel that job-wise, I can be doing a little better. Parenthetically, my wife works from home as a reservationist for Red Roof Inn. I would apply there, but because Ohio Opportunities for People With Disabilities helped me get this job, they cannot help me get another one unless I lose this one. If possible I want to prevent losing this job and waiting for another company to hire me. And, even if that happens, I'll have the silly hassle of having to have them re-open my case.

Due to faith and other social concerns, it would be in our best interest to move to Columbus. I can easily continue my studies there as they have ample universities. That being said, I actually applied for a job at Caltech twice. I was initially told I had the job, but there were complications with their software and JAWS, and they did not want to have any new blind employees start until they got these problems worked out. The geek who has been helping me out here was also in charge of setting up their software. He says that as jobs go, I have it better here.

All things considered, I am asking if anybody can tell me if there are any company call centers in or near Columbus, Ohio which are actually hiring. I have been a trail blazer in the past, and don't mind doing so. However, at this point, I can't play waiting games. I need to find a company where I can get in the door, which already has a mechanism set up to hire the blind. I have my own licensed copy of JAWS, and if I had to provide my own computer, I could temporarily do that. I would consider working from home, as it would save me transportation costs.

If anybody has any info on this, please write me off list so as not to clutter the list.

Thanks!

Chaim
