[Blindtlk] youtube ads

Michael:

In many ways it depends on which platform you are using to access YouTube. I
watch most videos using the very accessible YouTube app on my iPhone. On
this platform, VoiceOver announces the "skip ad" button along with the
amount of time left until one is allowed to skip the ad. Once VoiceOver says
"ad can now be skipped," you can do so by swiping right to the very
clearly-labelled "skip ad" button. On Windows, however, the process becomes
a bit trickier. The YouTube Web site has long been a source of frustration
for many blind people because of the many accessibility issues associated
with Web-based flash players. My suggestion for those who wish to watch
YouTube videos on Windows would be to use YourTube, an accessible
alternative to YouTube which was developed some years ago to make the Flash
content used by YouTube easier to navigate with a screen reader. The URL for
this Web site is: http://www.povidi.com/yourtube.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Subject: [Blindtlk] youtube ads

I just had to sit through a ten minute commercial on youtube about
back-to-school shopping so I could watch a three minute video. My son tells
me there is a button you can click on to get past most commercials. Does
anyone know how to access this feature, or will I have to endure ads like
this?
