If you like a lot of outdoor activity, non-pavement, it is a wonderful tip
to have.

Hi,
Thanks, this info really helps! I will probably stick with the marshmellow
roller tip given this.
Have a wonderful afternoon!
Chris

The roller ball tip I've seen is about 2 inches in diameter. I particularly
like it for use in an outdoor hiking setting or woods area. Otherwise,
around town I use the NFB telescopic cane. My opinion, if people are going
to ask questions about your cane, they'll ask them anyway, regardless of the
tip.

When I was teaching, I found that once kids got to look at and handle the
cane, the novelty was gone. I do remember in between classes when I let one
of the boys look at it, a middle-schooler, he telescoped it in, then cries
"On guard!" as helengthens it like presenting a sword or light saber. Very
humorous, and since then, once in a while, I've done that myself for a touch
of humor. Hard to describe on-list, may not get the chuckles it does in
person. Doesn't sound the same.

All this to say that once the questions are asked, the mystery dies, and
noone is worried about it.

Subject: [Blindtlk] Cane Tips and Update on my JAWS Decision

Hi All,
I am wanting to get a back-up cane tip for my cane. Currently I use the
marshmallow roller tip and love it with the exception that once it starts to
ware down a little, it has a tendency to sometimes still get stuck in
cracks. Thus, I was considering the smaller size roller ball tip but had a
few quick questions:

1) How loud is in in comparison to the marshmallow roller tip as it moves
along the floor?

2) Does it make the cane look more unusual (e.g., do people have a tendency
to ask you about it a lot or seem to stare at it if you have some usable
vision mores than the marshmallow style tips)? I work in a teaching setting
and need my students and want my colleagues to pay more attention to me than
to the quirky aspects of my cane...

3) Is it less likely to get stuck in cracks than does the marshmallow
roller tip when it starts to ware down or is it about the same?

Any info would be much appreciated!

For the question I had about JAWS, first, thanks to all of you that
responded, your comments and suggestions were really helpful. Based on a lot
of what I have heard and that I am still using Windows 7, I have opted to
hold off on purchasing the v17 update for now as I really have no specific
need of it.
Happy almost Friday all!
Chris
