Hi All,
See the below messages from Ambutech if you are interested in or considering the telescoping graphite cane. I did not actually know some of what she provides regarding usage.
Merry Christmas,
Chris

Hi Christine,

You are very welcome! I am glad I answered your questions. The Telescoping cane is more designed for indoor use so in an office, the mall, your house, or occasional use for short distances outside regardless if you are completely or partially blind. They are more designed as a light duty mobility cane and although people still use them as a regular mobility cane, we like to point out that it would break easier if it were to be stepped on or bent too far. Just because the inner shaft is so much thinner. That's all. I hope that this helps!

Thanks!
Merry Chirstmas!

Hi Melissa,
Much appreciated, thanks so much! Your answers lead to just one additional question. You mentioned that it is less durable. For normal travel (e.g., work, out in public...) will this be as fully usable as the folding canes if I am totally blind? Hope that made some sense. Thanks so much for all of your time and patience with my questions today. This will hopefully:) be my last one.
Merry Christmas!
Chris

Hi Christine,

I can certainly answer your questions and help you compare the folding to the Telescoping.

1) They are lighter in weight because the inner shaft is half the diameter of the outer shaft. This allows for a lighter cane but also is not as durable as a folding cane. They can still be used for light or occasional mobility.

2) They are very easy to change the length, you would just turn the inner shaft 1 and ¼ turn to loosen the lock, adjust it to the desired height, and then turn it back the same amount of turns or until it starts to feel tight to lock it. Don't over turn it or it could cause the lock to slip so the best way to check is to just pull on the two shafts and if they move, do another quarter turn. If they don't move, the cane is locked.

3) The canes are roughly the same amount of time to expand and collapse as a folding cane. They are two different styles and are both really easy to use.

I hope this answers all of your questions and have a Merry Christmas as well!
Thank you,
Mellyssa
