[Blindtlk] Online Dating

Hi all!
I'm sorry for joining this topic late!!! I had to take care of my boyfriend who was sick and now that he is well enough to return back to work, I'm now trying to ketch up in my E Mail. I agree with Peter. Finding a mate the old school way in person is the safest way to go. Also, looking by not looking is the best way to find a mate. I know from my own experience. I met my current boyfriend in the spring of 2011. I turned up at my then job site when I met a new co-worker in person. We were both seeking work experience, not mates. As we worked together and got to know each other, Mother Nature took over. Around six months after we met, we started dating. Now, we have three years and almost nine months of being a couple under our belts which included more than our share of spiritual tests from the gods, we are happily living together and doing our best to move forward in life. All of this sprang up from the desire to get work experience. In my case, as a blind person and in my boyfriend's case, as a one handed man who was trying to get back on his feet. Neither one of us was seeking a mate. At the time, we were both happily single. But little did we know that we would both turn up to work on an early spring day and wind up falling in love. I have met a few people who met on line and later got married. Good job to them!!! But with the Internet comes a lot of risks. You take enough risks even when you meet your mate in person. No matter where you meet a potential mate, yes, do get to know each other and the sooner you meet, the better as long as you meet in public and until you get to know each other better, don't trust any drink that tastes off and buy your own. It never hurts to let a friend know where you guys are meeting and always bring your cane or guide dog. Don't travel with this person until you know them and always trust your gut feelings. In my book, Getting anything from a potential mate other than their I.D, a back ground check if you don't meet your potential mate in person and contact information without getting to know them first brings a lot of risks. I don't care if one gets a picture or a discription of a potential mate's appearance right off the bat since it's up to personal preffence. In my book, at the very least, if you find out that your potential mate lives too far away to meet up in person, talk with them on the phone and get to know each other that way. You can arrange a trip to meet in person later on and plan it for a time that you already know enough about each other enough where you are both confortable. Good luck!!!
