[Blindtlk] An update on my Independence

Hurray for you. Why is this a big deal? Millions of blind people do these
things every day. In 1973 just months after loosing my sight I had taught
myself Braille, was traveling independently, graduating from high school and
setting out as featured soloist on an all American Youth concert choir tour
to six European countries. I became blind, picked myself up with no help
and began living an independent life. So, as I said, what's the big deal?

Subject: [Blindtlk] An update on my Independence

Dear Blindtlk Members,

I would like to give you an update on my independence. This week
I ordered and paid for my own food at the Chick Fil A on the UCF
campus. I used my student ID card to pay for my lunch. I also
walked from the parking lot to the library and found the couch
that I uiually sit on. These are small steps toward improving my
independence.
