All advice I've ever read for this kind of thing says you should meet him
there, don't let him take you anywhere and have a trusted friend somewhere
nearby to watch and to give you feedback on the guy. Be careful but have

You both bring up good points. I was thinking of asking a friend to be an
observer in the background. I will just tell him that I would feel
comfortable if I at least knew his name and had a picture before meeting.
