[Blindtlk] Serious problem with my iPhone 5S

That's what I did as well. One thing that I didn't mention in my
first post was that my phone ended up at 0 bytes even after I
deleted some apps. Although this part of the problem is solved.
What you can do Arielle is try to power off the phone and then
power it back on. When I did that, it now displayed as slightly
more storage (14-19 megabytes). I looked in the storage
settings, just like Mike described.

Thanks,

Sami

Yep, that's what I did, and it says nothing about an IOS update,
it
just lists a bunch of apps that have half a gig or less each.
The
amount of memory seems to be diminishing without any increase in
the
amount of memory reportedly being used by the various apps in
that
list.

Are you running the latest iOS update? If not, your iPhone may
have
downloaded it automatically. I've forgotten where in Settings
this is but
you can usually find a place indicating the download and giving
you the
opportunity to delete the download (you can always
download/upgrade later).
This should give you a good gig back in terms of free memory.
Again under
Settings general, I believe there's a "storage and iCloud"
setting. If you
click on this and then storage, you can see what apps are taking
up how
 much
space and get a good idea where space has gone.

The troubling thing is that when I look at my usage, my apps
can't possibly
add up to the amount of storage that's supposedly used. I only
have about
half a gigabyte of photos, no videos and no music.
Each of my apps only uses 300 mb or less. It also seems like I
had space
last week that's gone even though I've deleted all the videos I
downloaded.
When videos are deleted, do they sit in some kind of trash can
for a while?
Do I need to re-delete them to clear up space?

If you have BARD Mobile on your phone, remember that each
11-hour book
takes up 120 MB of space. Consider how many books or magazine
issues
you need to have on the phone. Podcasts, video and pictures can
take
up considerable space, also. Apps take up space, but for some
of them,
their data is the biggest space user.

Hi Sami, I've had the exact same issue on my 5S with the memory
capacity mysteriously decreasing over time. I don't know how to
fix it
yet, but suspect it may need to be "defragged" somehow. I'll
let you
know if I find the solution and would love advice from others
who have
 had their storage mysteriously disappear.
 Best, Arielle

 Hi all,

So I'm having a pretty major problem with my iPhone 5S. Don't
worry,
though. This has nothing to do with the phone crashing or
freezing,
 but rather a storage issue.

The other afternoon, while I was charging my phone, it was first
off
due to the battery percentage being nearly 0%. When the phone
came
back on, VoiceOver launched using a different voice than I use.
I
normally use Alex, but that time it started up with Samantha,
which I
believe is the default rotor voice for American English. This
is the
first part of the problem, since when the phone shut off
automatically, it has always remained at Alex. Anyway, I didn't
know
what else to do, so I decided to delete Alex and re-install him.
However, although the re-installation was successful, I got a
message
saying that the storage was almost full. I believe that that's
probably because the file for Alex is one of the biggest on the
 Iphone (869 M.G).
and probably larger than any apps. I deleted a few apps that I
don't
really use, but when I did that, it was still a lot less space
than
it was previously. Before the deletion, my phone was at 0
bytes, and
afterwords, it was only at 14 megabytes. I'm really concerned
because, even though I can use my phone, I'm afraid that I can't
install any more apps. So I have two questions for you guys: 1.
Is
there any way to make it so that my phone is at its original
storage
space from when I deleted Alex? 2. Is there any way to make it
so
that Alex is your default language and dialect as well as the
default
rotor language? If not, what can I do to change the voice from
Samantha back to Alex in case this problem happens again? I
thought I
might have changed voices with the rotor before, but haven't
realized
 how I did it.

For the first question, I am considering backing up my phone to
iTunes on my windows computer, but am worried that if I do that,
I
will loose all of my apps, music, and settings that I changed.

I hope that you can help me to solve this rather frustrating
issue.

Thanks in advance and have a good weekend,

 Sami

Pdds. I appologize in advance for going off-topic, but I just
received my grade for my first test for my college class as part
of
my blindness training that I took last week. I got a 94.

 Thanks again.
