I'll tape over the actual switch. Other than that, you'd really have to be heavy with the paint to get it back into the electrical area. I suppose you could if you tried hard enough, but under any sort of normal use, it should be fine. Honestly I'm not worried about this aspect of the job at all. My uncertainty is with getting the paint even and covering the old paint.

I meant, how would you keep the paint from getting inside where the switch cover was?

No, the switch is still there. The plate just covers up where it attaches to the wood framework in the wall. There are no electrical pieces flapping about in the breeze.

This may be real stupid, and I know you have thought this, but, without light switch covers, an all, won't you get shocked?

While we are on the topic of home maintenance...I need to paint a room. I have it all taped off, so the paint doesn’t get on the edges of the window frame and door frame. All the outlet covers and light switch plates are removed. The room is currently empty. Next up is to peruse the basement for something to be used as a drop cloth. What I need is suggestions on the actual painting. Specifically, how do I get it covered evenly without missing spots? And any tips on no streaks or lumps in the paint would be very much appreciated! I already have the paint, brushes, roller etc..

Thanks in advance!
