You know what we need, you guys, is a home repair list, or a handyman list. 
I love hearing all these ideas.

There is also a site called blindhow.com, and I hope some of these ideas end 
up there, too.

I know what I know, and that is all I know, and would love to learn about so 
many things.

I think wood is stripped before painting, but not real sure.  It's not
something I've heard of for regular house indoor walls.   According to the
nice ladies at the hardware store, primer is necessary when you are painting
a light color over a dark one.  It so happens that I was applying Apricot
Frost to a dark, sort of denim shade of blue.  The particular paint that I
was purchasing, because it was on sale, is supposed to be primerless.  Again
according to the hardware store ladies, it is supposed to cover in one coat,
but when advised about the dark blue, I was told that two coats would be the
safer bet.  Good thing they were buy one get one free.

Okay, I've just finished with the first coat and here's what I discovered.
The hardest thing turns out to be keeping track of all your stuff.  I had
the paint tray on the floor on the drip cloth.  I think it would be much
easier and less likely to spill it if I put it inside an empty cardboard
box.  Then I could use my foot to find it without any danger of spilling.
Also if I didn't get the roller lined up perfectly it would drip inside the
box.  I think I will also use a piece of cardboard or something to hold
against the ceiling as I work close to it.  It would be less guesswork of
how close I am to the ceiling...or I could have taped it too, I guess.

The roller feels different  when you run out of paint.  I'm with you Judy, I
can't quite explain it, but it's pretty obvious when you need more paint.
The strips that overlap halfway worked very nicely.

My sighted husband came in a few times to look at my progress.  I asked him
to because I wasn't sure about what I was doing, but he didn't have much to
add really.  He did confirm that it will need a second coat, but that I had
gotten on the first coat reasonably evenly.

So tomorrow will be the final coat and the detail work with the brush.  Wish
me luck!

Wow, ingenious.  However, it sounds like the tip of the brush is just going
over the ceiling, and that's a lot of strips.

In overlapping strips, are you in danger of streaking?  Also, is there a way
to tell if enough is enough?  Depending on the materials, I know some walls
will absorb paint more readily, taking more layers.

I also don't know anything about stripper or primer before putting on paint.
What can anyone tell us about those, would love info.

Overlap, if using a roller paint one vertical strip then move half the width
of the roller before painting the next strip.  Ceilings shouldn't be a
problem if a tennis ball is cut in half and a hole is punched in the center
of one of the halves.  The brush handle goes through the hole so the
bristles are coming out of the inside of the ball half.  The ball half
catches drips that don't end up on the floor.
