More specificity would be helpful. Frankly, if it doesn't involve you directly, don't worry.

How do you act like nothing happened when you know other sighted people know what happened and can see how you're acting? One of my sighted friends has many parties to which I've been invited, and this is where this situation has happened, hence the added embarrassment!

That thin-air thing, I know what you mean. You just have to say, Woops, and move on like nothing happened, right?

It seems like you're more confident than your friend is. Have you talked to him more about the Facebook thing?
Here are situations in which I've felt awkward with sighted people.
1. when a sighted person shouts at me (I guess there's a stereotype if you're blind, you're also deaf)
2. when a sighted person leaves the room without telling me, and I end up talking to thin air, it's so embarrasing!
3. when someone tells me something is "over there..."

Subject: [Blindtlk] Social Interaction Question
Hi,
I am curious to hear your opinions.
I have quite a few friends at school. With most of them, I feel like we have normal conversations with a normal flow. But one friend I have seems to make interactions awkward. I understand he doesn't have the best social skills, and I don't have a problem with it, but it is almost like he's scared to "say the wrong thing." He will initiate conversation, but not quite know how to go about it.
For example, I had sent him a friend request on Facebook, which he accepted.
He was surprised that I was on there, but when I said I had one he just said "Oh, I didn't know that..." and just stopped. I know what he was trying to say, and what I would have preferred, was, "I didn't know blind people used Facebook." I also just want to make it clear that I have no problem explaining the misconceptions that people have about things such as this, I would have just preferred it more out in the open.
Has anyone else ever dealt with a situation such as this? I completely understand that people are awkward at first normally, but then ease up later.
Thanks,
Vejas
