[Blindtlk] Boy I Miss Outlook Express!

Hi everyone,

Reading ribbons was a scary challenge for me when I first learned Windows
10, but my trainer taught me how to overcome it.

Here's how to make JAWS read ribbons the menu bar way.

1. Press Alt, H to go to the "Help" menu.
2. Press Z to go to the "Startup Wizard..." dialogue box.
3. Press Alt, N (the "next" button) until you hear JAWS say, "Common
options."
4. Press Alt, V to check the "use Virtual ribbon menus" check box.

Now when you read a ribbon, JAWS reads it like a menu bar. When JAWS says
"dropdown has popup," it means there is a submenu and more choices.

That's the one thing I don't like about Outlook after the 2003 version, the
ribbons are harder to work with. Give me the basics, and I'm happy.

Danielle, I feel your pain. LOL!

Hi Danielle,

I miss Outlook Express, too, but have learned to work with Outlook 2016,
which is very similar to Outlook Express.

I don't know about Gmail, but in Outlook 2016, you can work offline like
this.

1. Press Alt to go to the ribbon. Press Right Arrow until you hear JAWS say,
"Send and Receive" tab.
2. Press Down Arrow until you hear JAWS say, "Preferences submenu."
3. Press the "Work Offline" button.

Delete to your heart's content.

To have this work, you need to have "Enable Virtual Ribbon Menu" checked in
JAWS; if you want directions on this, I would love to tell you how!

So the Internet is constantly out on a daily basis over here. Anybody who
might need to know, I do not recommend Suddenlink! As a result, along with
the massive amounts of e-mails from my lists, I can't get caught up and
cleared out like I used to. OE had the ability to work offline, but Gmail
does not; consequently, I have more influx than reduction. Is there any way
for me to do this? I could read and delete to my heart's content, and
anything I had outbound would be sent once I was online again.
