Wheels on anything scares me, particularly if it doesn't have a back on it.

Sincerely,

Cory McMahon

Hi,

Putting wheels on the bar stools really scares me. I really don't think it will be stable for you. I wouldn't do it for myself and I don't have MS. Have you contacted any MS groups or gone to any MS web sites for information? How about any OT's or PT's in your area or on the web? What you are doing now sounds good. Keep us updated.

Annely

 Hi,

Due to physical limitations I have been experimenting with this problem for years. I have tried the office chair with extra pillows and found that to be very unstable. I have not found a rolling chair or stool high enough to reach my counters, sink and stove. However, I did get a very attractive wooden bar stool that is the perfect height for me to reach. You can find them in all kinds of department and home goods stores. They usually come in two heights, one for use at a tall breakfast bar high and the shorter one that is good to be at your kitchen counters, stove and sink. The one I got has a nice high back to offer good support when sitting. Mine also swivels so I can move from side to side reaching the stove and counters easily. The stool is light enough that I can push it from one side of my kitchen to the other as needed. It is not the perfect solution you are looking for but it might help for now. I know for me, with my MS causing me to fall a lot I am very glad that stool is there when I need it. When I am getting ready to prepare food I get everything out and place it on the counter where I can reach it from the stool without having to keep getting up. When I am using the burners on the stove I place the stool in front of the stove and I can reach to do what is necessary to prepare foods safely at the stove. As I was typing this message I had a thought of possibly putting wheels onto the legs of my stool. I do not know if that would make it too unstable or not.
I guess I will not know unless I give
it a try. Good luck to you and I will be interested to see what others suggest for this situation.

When I broke my foot, I used an office chair quite a bit around the house.
 In the kitchen
I would rest my knee on it or sit in between doing things.
I don't think it would be high
enough to work comfortably at the kitchen counters while sitting . There are wheelchairs specifically designed for activities that require more height. I've read about people using them for kitchen activities, but I don't know any more than that.

 A couple
other ideas would be to use a table for prep work instead of the higher counters. Or use a large cutting board in the lap to do the prep work, depending on what exactly needs to be done.

 You could use a
wheelchair. Many office chairs might work for it, too, but I don't know what precipitates the need.

 Does anyone know
of anything which will allow someone to maneuver around a kitchen and reach the height of an average kittchen counter without having to walk, like some sort of chair easy to role or something?
