[Blindtlk] Information about dreamers needed

Dear Everyone,
I know this topic is controversial. I am asking point blank, why we need to
collect information. It is clear, that the intention is to help them.
Maybe I resent that we want to help people, illegally here. I, for
instance, was a Teacher of the Visually impaired. I was itinerate. Our
democratic Governor discontinued the program, where a school district was
reimbursed 15 hours of reading/assisting time per week. The districts were
told that they had to pay for their own accommodations. Of course, the
districts are crying about not having money. In my last District, the
school district refused to pay for an Assistant to help me get to the
different schools, like I had before. That meant that I had to wait in the
heat sometimes for an hour for a bus. Some of the areas were really bad and
I was afraid of my safety. The sun hurt my Diabetes and I developed
Irritable Bowel Syndrome to the point, where I had to go on Teacher
disability, even though I would like nothing better than to work. Yes, I am
angry that we are paying for people, illegally here instead of law abiding
citizens.
Sorry, but I really felt I had to say that.
Marianne

Mary Ann,
I admire what you and what Laz's family gave up to come here and the efforts
you made to follow the legal path. The original email didn't open this can
of worms, though, it was opened when people responded. The original email
only stated that we wanted to collect information on people effected by this
program to figure out what kind of help they might need. It did not say
anything about whether those persons should stay or not, whether President
Obama should have started the particular program. Whether it should be voted
upon by Congress, whether tax dollars should or shouldn't be spent or any of
the arguments raised here. In my state, there are 6,300 people who will be
affected by whatever happens, and this means there could be as many as a
hundred blind people involved. As far as I no, that is what the initial
request is trying to understand. The rest of this conversation is what we
have all added to it and we should lay it to rest.
Best regards,
Steve Jacobson

I totally disagree with you. There are not as many jobs for blind people in
this country for people who are either americans or people, legally here.
Well, I am sorry that with the original email a can of worms was open..

I am not moderator, but this, as Steve said, has nothing to do with whether
or not people should use your tax dollars for things. I think that we ought
to stop debating this undebatable issue. It is, at least, undebatable here.
There are other forums to which you can take it. Talk to your Congressional
representatives for starters.

I agree with you whole heartedly. I came here legally also. I resent having
to spend any of my tax dollars on people, who are illegally here. I came
here and studied and then found a job to sponsor me to get my Green Card.
Afterward, I waited five years and then became a citizen.

My family was escaping from communism. We had to give up all our property
and possessions in order to leave. It took us that long to do it legally but
then my family tended to always to things legally... As someone who arrived
in this country legally I feel I should have a lot more rights than anyone
who arrived here illegally.
