Just for the record, I usually don't have a problem shopping at Walmart in my area either.

The California Maryland WalMart was excellent helping me shop in that store for the 18 years I lived in Maryland. Apparently WalMart varies widely locally.

With that said it's to their advantage to provide curtesy services such as shopping assistance to disabled customers when requested to do so. It gets more customers in the store and helps them earn a good reputation among the markets they serve.

For times when you must shop at such an establishment or simply to bring someone with you who knows your shopping habbits is an excelent idea. We use a service called "Visiting Angels" that among other things helps us with shopping. It's the best $500 per month we spend.

Legislation requiring merchants to provide shopping assistance is only one remedy. Better still is getting off of your behind and creating opportunities when they don't exist. Yes the blind need equal opportunity but it's our responsibility to answer the door when opportunity knocks reguardless of its form. No one attends college to learn how to flip hamburgers. They do it to provide income for themselves until a better job or more desireable career can be found. It's time the blind smartened up and did the same. Opening your mind to harnessing income-producing vehicles to raise the needed cash to utilize a service like Visiting Angels is in your best interest as it turned out for us. Now we hardly ever have issues like those folks who shopped at Ross described in other posts. Happy holidays everyone.
