Sorry your experience doesn't match up.  I have seen it work the other way, and I did get hired through a placement office.  That guy should have never told you that.

That is completely wrong!
I was the first blind person to complete Vatterott tech school in st. louis and I wish I would have been recording when the placement guy flat out said he wasn't going to risk his placement record on me!
The motto was get in, take rehab dollars and get screwed!

In fact, from what I understand, vo tech schools are the better choices, they are cheaper and you get out and can look for work much faster.  Plus, many of them have a placement department that can help you.

I went to a four-year university all those years ago, but got my job through the university's placement department.

My husband, though, worked at and retired from a vo tech college, and their motto is "Get in, get out, get paid," and that really does work.

I think some agencies may be stuck in the rut of the college-university, and not thinking vo tech.

I do not live in Alabama, but in most rehab programs, they aren't done until they're done. If the world requires a degree and tech school no longer cuts the mustard, you should not be the victim. Perhaps the agency should be challenged. There is a difference between those who want to stay in school forever and those who simply do not have the right amount of schooling or the right certification.

I went to World Services for the Blind and got my Assistive Technology Instructor certification. Little that does me in Alabama, though. I really should’ve gone to college, but now that I went to World Services for the Blind, my counsellor can’t pay for college, so its tech support and remote customer service I’m looking for now.
