You can be completely nice, never argue/cuss a counselor and still get zero clients then suck it up and return to your original state!

Well, that is true that as a vendor you are on call.  I have done that in the past, was a vendor with a state agency for ten years, did get jobs, you have to build a rep.

Could you consider becoming a vendor for your state agency?  Some agenciesrequire you to carry liability insurance, while others do not, but if you were a vendor for your state agency, you would be on call to visit.  You could also do some over-the-phone trouble-shooting and charge for the phone call.

You might call on, maybe, the Lions club to help you with some initial transportation, in return, give the driver a gas card.

Just some thoughts for getting started.

Thanks for this, Garry. I’m currently doing an internship at the state adult education center for those with disabilities, called Gentry Technical Facility. Some folks that I work with here have tried to get an opening for me, but it looks like there will be no job in Assistive Tech here any time soon. There are positions for those who do work at a consumer’s home, but the benefit of having a job is offset by having to have transportation at a moment’s notice, having to travel all the time, stay in hotels, and all that. I was trained to teach some one in a classroom setting, and that’s ideally what I’d love to do. But I was young back then and didn’t ask the right questions of my VR counsellor, like how likely would it be for me to even get such a job at AIDB or anywhere else in Alabama. But such are the decisions of youth: made in haste and of good faith for those who guide me.
