Mike,
I am not yet a blind distiller but have seriously considered making
my own tequila - my liquor of choice. I have made beer and really love our
Tampa Bay craft scene. Where in Florida are you and will you be joining us
at our state convention in Boca Raton over the Memorial Day weekend? If you
would like to chat, please feel free to give me a call: 813-626-2789.
Fraternally yours,
Marion

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise
expectations because low expectations create barriers between blind people
and our dreams. You can live the life you want! Blindness is not what holds
you back.

Subject: [BlindTlk] Hi, Looking for blind distillers
Howdy all,
My name is Mike, I'm 56 years old and totally blind. I live by myself, I'm
very/stubbornly independent, living in Florida. I'm trying to locate blind
Home Distillers. I've been into this new found hobby of mine for about a
year and a half now and find it absolutely fascinating. Plus I don't think
I'm half bad at it neither. LOL! I've had to do tons of research to find
different ways to adapt all of my equipment, in all of the different aspects
of home distilling; so a blind person can confidently and more importantly;
safely: make exquisite fine spirits at home.
Yes, I do know that distillation of alcohol spirits at home are illegal;
both at a federal level, along within the state of Florida; So lets just
call it distillation of extremely good, flavored waters. BTW: I'd really
like to get some kind of state and federal action going; making it legal to
distill spirits as a hobby at home; up to a certain gallonage per year.
Since 1978 it has been legal for one to make their own beer, wine and cider
at home. But not liquor. It's time to change this liquor lobby controlled
law.
But seriously; I'd like to talk to other blind home distillers about all
aspects of making fine spirits at home. So please shoot back a reply to this
post.
Happy distilling and be safe!......Mike
