Yes, I have had the same issue that you describe and I wrote to JAWS support.  They instructed me, among other things, to uncheck the "Protected view" in the Acrobat Reader DC's preferences, in the Security (Enhanced) tab and that took care of the problem for me.  You will have to restart the Acrobat Reader to have that change take effect.

While this worked for me, I received no answer from JAWS technical support as to why this change was not needed for NVDA.  In addition, this is not even required on all computers.  Another computer of mine had Protected View on and JAWS read the PDF just fine, so there is probably an additional factor that causes a problem.  They also mentioned unchecking an "App Container" option that I did not find.

Hi all,
I have noticed over the last few days that JAWS isn't reading PDF documents.
I have the latest versions of JAWS and Adobe Reader installed. Some of the
documents I have tried to read have been read before with no problems, and I
am not sure what has changed to make them no longer accessible. The OCR
feature will read them, but I was previously able to read them without
having to do that step. I am wondering if anyone else has had similar issues
and if anyone has any suggestions? Thanks.
