That is scary, and surprised to hear of totally blind not using it either.

Is the NFB state affiliate concerned about this, or have they addressed it?  Just curious.

I’m 47 nearly 48. And I tried valiantly for at least 25 of those years to learn great to basically on my own. All the blind people I know that use it proficiently don’t live near me and I still don’t have people even in my NFB chapter that  are proficient in braille. Even the totals. It was very evident to me when someone from another Wisconsin chapter called in suggesting that we hold braille classes to gain members. They had been informed that people needed help after attending the adult one week training program at the state school for the blind. On our zoom call nobody felt like they could teach more than the letters and numbers. I was almost embarrassed. Madison has the Wisconsin Council of the blind but nobody teaches more than the alphabet numbers in a little punctuation. The sighted staff won’t teach it. There is a braille crisis and we are not helping those who really want to learn like myself. Literacy is precious and when you lose that ability to read as an adult it’s very difficult emotionally. I applaud those who want to learn.
