Yes, the Old Edge is more a ccessible than it was at the betginning.  The version of edge you have, though, is dependent upon the version of Windows, so the version that each of us has can vary.  Apparently they did some things well.  As I understand it, Edgbe will do a good job of reading EPUB files, and it doesn't do a bad job on PDF's, either.  Still, that isn't why one uses a web browser.

FYI:

If one presses the Windows key and types in "default browser" without the quotes, one is brought to a settings screen where one can change the default browser that is used.  You can change it back to Internet Explorer or to Chrome or FireFox if one wants to do that.  That should pretty much prevent Edge from running.  You also may need to change the default reader for PDF documents as well.  I believe Edge is still considered a part of Windows so do not believe it can be removed completely.

I'm not sure why Microsoft seemed to stop development of Edge some time back.  They put a lot of work into it and yet it was still lacking.  However, they are coming out with a new Edge that apparently uses the open source code base that is used in Chrome.  I understand one can already download a beta of the new Edge, but I would probably wait on that.
