My Samsung smart TV tells me which HTMI inputs a device is using.
This is done through Smart Hub which is accessible.

I love your idea about the inputs accessibility idea.
The only thing I can think of to do is to determine the start point where
your screen turns on. Mine is always the same, then write down the sequence
of steps you need to get to where you can turn voice guide on.
LG also has a good support number you can call for help.
The things I thought I would need them for I was able to figure out on my
own so far.

What's really needed for those smart tv's is when you unplug a chrome
appliance and have to change inputs the tv tells you which input you are on
as you move through the inputs.
If I was going to get any help from the geek squad, I would ask them to show
me how to set the accessibility up on the tv. That way if it quit on me at
home, I'd be able to fix it myself.
I found verizon text to speech isn't nearly as good as comcast voice
guideance. Buttons on the remote when you press them do not announce
themselves for one thing. That happens with voice guideance on xfinity
though.
