Restored.  Furthermore, battery status messages only flash on the screen 
and do not get spoken on text to speech.  Probably use of a remote with 
weak batteries caused the random channels problem I had.  Until verizon 
gets those remote battery status messages talking on text to speech, if 
you get a random channels problem change batteries and see if it improves.
Now, about buying a new tv, the only tv's that could have a problem 
working with text to speech are the ones sold just as hdmi standards 
started being put in place.  There was a period of about 6 months when 
competing hdmi standards were in use and the tv's with those competing 
standards usually have only one hdmi port on the back.  Even with these 
tv's, a coaxial cable connecting the set top box and the tv antenna 
connector can be used eliminating use of hdmi entirely.  Nobody ought to 
have been told to buy a new tv, verizon could have mailed you a coaxial 
cable you could have connected and eliminated any hdmi problem you were 
having.
