Jen, I was making my comments specifically to not apologizing for one's
religion or skin color. My concern is that we narrow the issues so it is
clear how we feel about what. Nothing in my message speaks to sexual
violence or the accusation of such. I simply observed that no one has asked
me to apologize for any part of who I am. Sorry if you thought I was
addressing anything other than this. I have opinions, but I was trying to
bring focus to one issue I feel I know something about.

Those characteristics you mentioned are different from sexual assault
victimization. Religious beliefs are, as an example, not forced on us
because we can choose to leave a religion if we want to, or we can choose
not to be religious at all, any time. Sexual assault victimization is
forced. I'm not sure how to explain what I mean, and I'm sure someone will
come along who can say it better than I can.

impossible to discuss any part of it constructively. May we narrow this to
one point for the moment? I want to know when the NFB has ever asked me or
any of you to apologize for our being White, for our geographic location, or
our religious beliefs? The only thing I've been asked to do is accept that
not everyone in our circle shares these characteristics with me. At no point
have I ever been asked to leave my other characteristics at the door and
just be blind. I have been accepted as a package and have felt prized as a
member. I want to extend that to others as it has been extended to me. How
to implement do unto others is harder than asserting it as one of my values,
but I'm willing to undertake the challenge, and I think my brothers and
sisters in the NFB are willing to do the same.
