Hi,
I may be spoiled, but I like the electric broom or vacuum, easier and quicker.
I only use a broom to sweep off the deck and porch, because I sweep everything off the edge.

We have a small stick electric broom that we use now more often than not. It's not a vision or lack there of thing. Both of us have trouble with balance and it's just easier to flip a switch. It's very light weight, not any heavier than a swiffer really.
We still do use the broom. Instead of the little dust pan that you got a been so far down to sweep the dirt into we have one of those things like fast food places have. We got the bin and broom at our local big box door hardware place. I'm sure you can find them at Home Depot or other places. In Wisconsin MENARD's is the big go to place for stuff. The company started with one store in Eau Claire Wisconsin we are up north just near the border of Wisconsin and MN. To describe the thing it's kind of like a dust pan with a long handle. When you want to sweep stuff into it the bottom is flat and you can keep it study with the upright stick on the back. The stick kind of folds into itself, the bed I mean so that it has like a little storage compartment if you pick it up right. Then you can go over to the garbage can without dropping dirt all over before you get to the trashcan. With a stick it's kind of tricky because it can get into the wall your way trying to flip the trash thing down and pour the dirt into the trashcan. Go investigate a little bit. I'm not doing the thing justice. We have a regular the broom rather than the little one that comes with the handled dust bucket thing. This sounds crazy but maybe you could kind of ask someone who's sleeping up at a fast food place to see what they have. It helps us out because our backs are crappy and so is balance. We don't have to bend over so far to do things. Hope someone understands what I'm describing and i've helped someone.

One thing that helps when sweeping is to try to sweep so it all ends up in one pile and then use a whisk broom to put it all into a dustpan. But as I said, I am not that great at sweeping. Perhaps Judy or someone has a better alternative technique. Dividing your floor up into sections helps.

What I've usually done, is make sure that the cleaning around the table, kitchen and counter areas I use every day are always clean, daily. I use disinfectant wipes and water. I usually clean in a grid pattern. For example, clean the areaggness) moving vertically over the surface, and when you are done, move horizontally over said surface. But the key is to always be proactive and do it as often as possible. The concept applys also to floors. I bought a portable, battery powered vacuum cleaner that I can use for cleaning floors, and can also do corners quite well. It seems to work for me. As per windows, I always use Windex, cleaning and applying it with paper tissue, the thick variety.
