Recently I had an interview with Hanuel a member of the Verbalize team. 

Verbalize is an automated video descriptive computer program underdevelopment. Hanuel and her team are working on creating computer programming which would automatically provide the view of Youtube videos, movies, tv shows etc with Described action.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for your support of VerbalEyes so far. For those of you who are new to our newsletter, we’d love to introduce ourselves! We are a group of students from the University of Washington (UW) who are working to build a product that automatically provides audio descriptions and optical character recognition for online video content. This bi-weekly newsletter gives us a chance to keep you updated on our progress, share demo videos and a beta version once we have it, and stay connected with all of you. We have been working on this project for seven weeks now, and we are excited to share our progress so far! 

Progress and Updates

We are super excited to share that we’ve received a grant for accessibility research from UW CREATE, our university’s Center for Research and Education on Accessible Technology and Experiences. We will also be presenting our project at UW’s Undergraduate Research Symposium in May.

We have also been actively reaching out to organizations for the visually impaired and blind community, as well as universities across the nation. On the technical side, we have been developing an optical character recognition (OCR) feature to help describe videos such as how-to videos, promotional videos with text overlaid on video, and videos with captions burned into the videos.
