I don't know about your screen reader, but I have hundreds of kindle books that I read with the kindle for PC app from amazon and I use jaws. Also, the kindle for PC app does have its own built-in TTS as well, and most books are usable one way or the other. There are some that are blocked by publishers from being able to read with a screen reader, but that is rare in my experience. The kindle for PC app is a free download from amazon. I've been reading kindle books since 2011 or so, and I've discovered a lot of books I couldn't find anywhere else.

Subject: [BlindTlk] Adapting for kindle
Hi friends,
I currently use an older version of AssistiveWare called VisioVoice as a vision impairment screen reader software in my mac. It is like zoom text, but the voices can run faster. Their newer program, which I haven’t gone to yet, is called Wrise, in case you know them. I use it because I like their assistive cursor, and I read fast on audio.
Occasionally, a book comes up for sale on Amazon that is available as kindle. I don’t use a kindle. Do any of you know if it is possible to buy a book in kindle, then read it through other TTS software on our own computers?
Thanks,
Peter
