Hi, I had reached out to the national Federation office on Friday. Quite honestly I need some help although I may have some decent orientation and mobility skills I am finding it difficult in navigating my surroundings. I live in Rhode Island, and it’s been a fight my entire life to get the services and supports that I need. I still have not really pulled everything together although I am aware of the types of supports and systems that are available in Rhode Island. my understanding has been for a long time that these systems are a mess due to constant budget cuts, and COVID-19 has further contributed to this problem. there is an understanding from the general public that there are services out there to assist a blind person one most of the time the services don’t exist. in talking with the services for the blind administrator she had suggested that I need personal care attendant services that would be able to help me around with food shopping preparing meals, also doing side guide around the community. I had explored self-directed services a year or two ago and had difficulty in hiring people. I feel that something is wrong with Rhode Island in general. be my eyes can help out somewhat but I don’t feel comfortable with reading of personal printed materials, and Aira is. It’s crazy but if anyone has any suggestions or would like to haveIt’s crazy but if anyone has any suggestions or would like to have a conversation over the phone or zoom meeting that would be great.
