This is also the way I do it. The paste in the mouth idea is kind of disgusting to me, but to each their own I guess.

I rarely make a mess, by just holding the toothbrush in my right hand, near the tip where the brush is, and if it’s heavy, put the bottom part on the counter. Then pick up the toothpaste with your left hand and bring the mouth of the tube over just barely over, the left hand side of the toothbrush. Squeeze and check with your right thumb, how much you’re getting on the tooth brush. When you think it’s enough, stop, put the cap on the toothpaste, and brush your teeth. I’ve found that having a sonic tooth brush gets to places other electric tooth brushes don’t, so they do a more thorough job. Keep practicing the putting the tooth paste directly on the tooth brush. So what if you make a mess. Just make it in the sink where it’s easier to clean. You’ll get the feel as to how much you actually want on your toothbrush. I’ve done it this way ever since I was a kid and learned to brush my own teeth. But then, I had exceptional parents. Hope yours will understand when you make such messes, learning.
