[BlindTlk] visually impaired people not caring about personal hygiene..

Madison, I think you’ve already figured it out. Your self-esteem isn’t there. Why, because partly you’ve been treated like less as a citizen. Your response has been to behave that way. The story you told us about not staying clean and what your family friend said is an example. That’s not judgmental, it’s just fact. What you have to come up with is people to be around you who bolster your confidence, but in the end, you have to realize yourself that you’re a person who deserves every right of other people. That’s not always easy, but you’ll have to work on it. First, you gotta tell yourself you are great. Eventually, if you say it long enough, you’ll probably believe it. And then you have to start doing things that show it. One of those would be to improve your hygiene. One of those will be to decide what you wanna do next, and then figure out what path you need to get on to do it. I hope this isn’t too harsh, but you been around for a long time, and you don’t have direction. If you have any friends or instructors, who believe in you more than you do, well, then talk to them about it and see if they can help you find a direction. I don’t know if your parents believe in you because your mom gets mad at you when you make cupcakes. And you worry about it, so other things like that happen. I don’t know if this makes any sense, but I hope you’ll find a way to brighten your life in the next year.

That's quite a discriminatory and stereotypical comment for a family member to make. It's too bad they have such a low opinion of blind people. I can't help but wonder how that might affect your self perception.
