Ask your friend if you want to know exactly what he means.

It sounds like he is referring to independence and self-sufficiency. I found it strange that he is emphasizing staying in a hotel by himself, as though it might be a new experience for him. This could very well be true if he is either very young or has newly-acquired skills, or has never been away from home before?? This can also be true of sighted persons as well though.

It sounds like he is referencing someone else who could be a good example for you??

You really should continue the conversation with him.

For context, here is what he said. This is a Facebook comment: I have told you for a long time there is a huge difference in being blind, and acting blind. He is the greatest example you will ever find of not acting Blind. That's part of the reason he has been so successful. Get his phone number and talk to him. He would be a huge resource for you.
Obviously, I have been successful. I have a job. I am able to advocate. And, about a month ago, I stayed at a hotel by myself, and I had a wonderful experience.
