Hi, Madison,

The secret to using a safety razor is using a light touch and going slowly.  Check your work with the other hand so you can tell the area covered and the job you are doing.

While I started out with an electric as a young teen, I think around fifteen, after a month, I started using a straight razor.  I had a girlfriend who used one, and I practiced with the cap over the blade for the first go, but then used it with no problem.

When shaving around the shin area, shave at an angle so you aren’t shaving straight up the shin bone.  Same around the knee caps.  I was a skinny teen and had bony knees hahaha.  The fleshier parts of the leg, you are less likely to cut, but don’t press in on the razor.  Use a light touch and let the blade do the work.

Also be extra light and go slow in the under arm area.  Just go slow and use light touch.

Also, you might find it easy to start with by shaving in a tub with bath salts that have a bit of oil to help the legs stay slippery.  Just a tip, though, and not necessary as long as you lather up with soap or shave cream.  

When I wash my hair, I use a drop of that shampoo, that’s all it takes.

I’ll tell you a secret.  I had a college roommate who never shaved her legs during pants weather, meaning the cooler fall, winter and beginning of spring.  She claimed that the less you shave, the less you will have to keep it up.

My daughter who used to work at a medical spa says the same thing.

When I got that tip from my roommate, I tried it, and she is right, at least for the legs area.  I rarely ware skirts-dresses in cold weather, and abandoned them altogether in the workplace, opting for suits.  The only dresses I have are for occasions like banquets and weddings or funerals.  I’ve gone strictly slacks outfits, and sweats at home.

Hi to all of the ladies on list, 
It'll be summer soon which means it'll be time to start wearing shorts and also
my mom and sister killing me as I don't shave my legs. I don't do it because I
really don't care what they look like but when Mom does it for me I get grief
about how I should be doing it myself but the one time I tried I cut my legs
multiple times (I get annoyed when Mom makes me do things that I really don't
care about so then I either rush and/or do a sloppy job). Do any of you lovely
ladies have any ideas as how I can shave without cutting myself? I'm only really
worried about my legs as I only wear t-shirts so no one can see my armpits
(that's not why I only wear them it's just a bonus of doing it). Thanks and I
look forward to reading whatever any of you have to say!
