I wash it in the shower, like you. I use Pert Plus shampoo which has cream rinse also. The instructions say to leave it on for 1 minute. So I do that and turn off the water, so as not to run out of hot water. Then rinse. The shampoo rinses out pretty quickly, and when I squeeze the hair I hear no sound of suds, then I know I’ve got it all out. However, then I use Panteen cream rinse. I leave it on for another minute while I wash my body. Then I turn the hot water on, just as hot as I can stand it, and rinse my hair. It usually feels like it will get gummy, on the top of my head, so I keep it under the very hot water until that gummy feeling is gone. Regarding your ears, keep the hair all behind your ears, and if you get water in them, my physical ed teacher, always told us to stand on one foot and lean over to the right and left, and shake the opposite leg. This helps to force the water inside, out and then you can use a Kleenex, or dry rag, to put a little ways in your ear and get the water out, before turning your head back upright. It works for me most of the time. Hope this helps.
